The Humans of Hancock and Rowe: Mersudin
The Humans of Hancock and Rowe is a series of interviews that introduces you to who we are and the people we work alongside. From our team to our clients, we’ll be sharing the stories of those who our agency help, support and collaborate with.
Introducing Mersudin Forbes, who’s on a mission to make finding what you need online as easy as finding the seaside in Folkestone.
Where do you come from?
I am ‘mostly’ from a little place called St Georgen in Germany. My family fled war from Bosnia to move there. I lived there until I was 11 years old where my parents ran a hotel. It was a great place to be as it meant I basically moved house every few months in the rooms in the hotel.
Although the hardships I have endured were difficult, they gave me a perspective you cannot buy: no matter how hard things seem, there is always a way through.
Where are you now?
I am based in Folkestone, Kent and have lived here since I was 11. My family moved here to be closer to my dad’s side of the family.
The place is fantastic as you have the seaside on one side and the North Downs on the other. All while being 56 minutes away from London St Pancras. This is ultimately useful as I travel to London once a week to meet friends and clients.
How did you travel between the two?
I visit Germany once every few years to see family and enjoy the life I have fond memories of when I was young. The place certainly feels a lot smaller than it did when I was 11!
What are your hopes for the future and the digital world?
I am ultimately working towards productising my offering so I am not exchanging my time for money, which is the most precious resource we have in life.
My hope for the digital world is that we look beyond purely measurable metrics and focus on real consumer experiences, which affect the bottom line more than anything you can measure.
Everyone is chasing the next set of innovation but the truth lies in focusing on the customer, asking difficult questions and offering things of real value rather than work that tries to.
I am ultimately an e-commerce search specialist, and helping people find what they are looking for is what all of my work centres around.
What do you find most enjoyable about partnering with Hancock and Rowe?
It has to be the team. They communicate with positive intent at all times, love their customers and look after their partners. All round great people anyone would love to work with.
Oh, and they happen to be really good at what they do as well.
